Services of Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC), Dhaka (Sowka) Region, Dhaka:




On 16 October 1961, Ordinance No. 37 established the East Pakistan Agricultural Development Corporation (EPADC), now known as the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC).


As a subsidiary organization of the Ministry of Agriculture, BADC is committed to providing agricultural inputs and technologies to farmers and to play a continuing role in making the country self-sufficient in food and achieving food security for the people. BADC's Administration Wing, Finance Wing, Seed and Horticulture Wing, Minor Irrigation Wing and Fertilizer Management Wing are working together to implement this commitment.


A. Services/Functions:


(Following Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation Ordinance-1961, National Agricultural Policy 1999 and BADC Restructuring 1999):


1. Providing advice to the government on the formulation and implementation of necessary policies for the development of water resources for the purpose of micro-irrigation development;


2. Introduction of mechanized farming methods and use of power pumps for irrigation;


3. Providing irrigation facilities by installing deep, shallow and manual tube wells;


4. To implement national agricultural policies, programs and projects through maximum utilization of own resources for socio-economic development of the country;


5. Development and market expansion of vegetables, seedlings, cuttings and horticultural crops;


6. Training farmers on providing micro-irrigation facilities, improving irrigation management, expanding irrigation and improving irrigation efficiency;


7. Water resource surveys, water quality testing and information services;


8. Development of water resources and implementation of On Farm Water Management program for micro irrigation development;


9. Appraisal and direction of short, medium and long term projects for increasing irrigated area; And


10. Implementing irrigation management in integrated and regional agricultural development and providing emergency services in irrigation management.


11. Service regarding authorization of electricity connection to private shallow tube well schemes.


12. LLP/ Supply of ribbon pipe for expansion of deep/shallow tubewell irrigation.
